In Remembrance of Samani Stith Pragya ji

l Samani Rohini Pragya l

December 31st, 2022, turned into an emotional day for the entire Saman Order of Terapanth. It was a breaking news of Samani Prof. Stith Pragyaji’s last breath. There was a sudden upheaval in her health on 29th December 2022 evening. With in matter of just two days it got to its climax. The critical health condition was informed to her.She with no loss of time, with her eye gesture approved for fasting unto death and upgradation of ascetic life. Her passing was unexpected with the last day of 2022. There is no way for her physical return from Jaipur. With the deep sense of gratitude, we however, cherish the golden moments spent and enjoyed together in Samani family.

Pioneer

1980, first time in Jain history a new venture of asceticism (Samani Order) took its breath. Samani Stith Pragya ji had the privilege to be the pioneer of this order based on her seniority. In the background of this privilege, she did strong sacrifice to convince her parents. It was her firm devotion towards the words of gurusof terapanth order that she could stand all the odds both philosophical and pragmatic.

Personality

Her helping hands and unconditional love in time of needs was truly full of care and devoid of formality expression. Her ability to read others pain ad suffering was exceptional. In such times she would make herself available in every respect no matter even like a junior most Samani. Her opening, middle and concluding part of life, in many respects is inspiring and powerful. She was a resolute meditation and austere practitioner. Her firm conviction in healing through spiritual ways was exemplary. Her keen desire for knowledge, contemporary global updates and advancement opened welcoming opportunities in educational field. Her services to university programs and community are remarkable. A blend of knowledge and spiritual training is what she was emerged into, and it is that which she shared with others too. I remember as a new Samani initiate had the opportunity to accompany her some twenty years back in one of her classes for the PG distance education students held at Ladnun. It was the class for mantra meditation. Almost 21 different chants were offered by her. The chant practice was so powerful that I could sense the vibration even now echoing in my head. One of the chants that I learned then ‘GamoabhayadayâGam’ worked very well in overcoming fear in an infant in 2017 when it was written on all the four sides of kid’s room wall in pink color. My humble gratitude for what she taught to me and many of us. Her smiling face, helping hands and kind heart has a deep impression in our lives. With deep respect and unforgettable memories to offer our tribute to the departed soul. May the soul advance in its spiritual journey.
