Mr. Donald Trump, the President of the USA, is one of the most trending topics today globally. As a result of his bold policies and transformative reforms, the so called “world leader” has attracted the attention of all segments of the society, all the way from business leaders and professionals to students, community groups, going as far as housewives who’re marvelled with curiosity about what’s happening. There are similarities to be drawn ideologically and metaphorically with Trump’s aspiring policy and Terapanth’s legendary policy of administration.
One of the most powerful and defining slogans of his campaign was 'AMERICA FIRST', which was not just a campaign promise but a core ideology shaping policies and governance. Terapanth has a tradition that has upheld the mindset of 'MARYADA FIRST!' all the way from its inception by Acharya Bhikshu to our current leader Acharya Mahashraman.
Terapanth’s glorious history and prestigious present is filled with instances where the policy of 'MARYADA FIRST!' has always been at the core of administration and functioning. Even if Mr. Trump’s 'America First' policy proves effective over time, it would still stand in comparison to the centuries-old success of 'MARYADA FIRST!' - a principle that has propelled Terapanth to new heights and made it one of the most well-established spiritual organizations in the world.
Recently, an article in The Times of India highlighted Mr. Trump’s directive to develop a defense technology similar to the Iron Dome for the USA to safeguard it’s borders as an extension of its “America First policy”
Iron Dome is a cutting-edge missile defense system designed to intercept and neutralize threats, ensuring national security.
Simplifying it, Iron Dome acts as a shield for a country from external attacks, Drawing a parallel metaphorically, the sacred policy of “Maryada First” - etched in a single compact scripture, “Maryada Patra”, serves as an Iron Dome of faith, preserving the purity, unity, and discipline of the tradition.
A single paper crafted centuries ago has fortified Terapanth, much like how world powers are working to develop cutting-edge defense mechanisms today. The written policy of Acharya Bhikshu functions as the ultimate safeguard, ensuring the Sangh remains pure by external influences.
The Iron Dome to safeguard Terapanth’s Maryada first policy:
The first and foremost maryada is – All monks and nuns remain under the guidance of a single Acharya, preventing division, ego conflicts, or leadership struggles that could weaken the Sangh.
The second shield – Every disciple should do their vihar and chaturmas as directed by the Acharya, this rule ensures the central control, longevity and integrity of the spiritual order.
The third protection shield of the Iron Dome of Terapanth says, “No one should make their own disciples.” This protects the institution from the feeling of negative possessiveness, groupism and narcissistic divisiveness. The fourth shield advocates for strict “quality control” in Terapanth. It says the Acharya should initiate only eligible people to join the Sangh as monks and nuns. If someone is found to be ineligible, even after Diksha, the Acharya has the right to suspend or oust them from the sangh.
The final and fifth layer of the Iron Dome says, “When the Acharya chooses any of his disciples as his successor, all the monks and nuns should accept him happily.” It strengthens the unity and tradition of the Sangh, develops the idea of spiritual devotion and submission and prevents missiles of interrogation and competitive spirit for the sake of hierarchical position.
Trump’s “America First policy” and Iron Dome may or may not protect the physical boundaries of the nation, too early to call a prophecy but the internal boundaries of any institution are well shielded by its “Maryada First” policy. Terapanth’s Maryadapatra is a successful Iron Dome amplifying the virtues of our legendary Sangh. Trump's "Make America Great Again" may succeed or fail, but Terapanth's “Maryada First” policy has been an epitome of success and greatness.
